I’m a huge fan of classic chambray and constantly stop myself from buying chambray button-down shirts because I already have a couple. (I do end up wearing them fairly frequently- especially in the summer because they’re so lightweight- but I will literally seeing someone wearing almost the exact shirt I already own asking, “where’d you get that? I love it.” ) But, for all my chambray love, I have to say, I’d never quite understood the technical difference between chambray and denim. So thank you google for leading me to this definition from Proper Cloth- “A chambray is a plain weave fabric woven with a colored yarn in the warp and a white yarn in the weft. Like chambray, denim is made with a colored yarn in the warp and white in the weft, but is woven in a twill construction. The chambray’s warp and weft threads will alternate one over the other, while denim’s warp thread will go over two threads in the weft before going under one. Typically, you will notice a lighter color to the underside of a denim fabric, whereas the underside of chambray will appear much more similar to its face side.”
There are both chambray cottons and chambray linens and though it’s a material typically used for clothing, I love love LOVE bits of it in interiors and often use it to help achieve an in easy-breezy vibe spaces…
In the bedroom above, designed for clients from our TV show, I used these chambray pillows with knotted tassels on the sides to pull in a bit of that gray-blue I’d used on the trim throughout the house.
In the photo below, you can see we have a chambray duvet cover on our bed at the lake house and it always feels so easy and relaxed…
And I used a chambray sofa for our Best House on the Block client’s living room. It was so comfortable:
And just WHOAH to the photo below. I truly cannot handle that bedspread & bolster, I love it so much!!! I need to have this made!! (I love it ALL actually;) )
Chambray is such a classic. It reminds me of my both mom and my grandmother who have always worn it and/or blue oxfords…. I found this sweet little off -the-shoulder option here last year for Gisele & it still fits… (Hard to see from this angle but I paired it with denim shorts & sneakers.)
And finally, I found that chambray dress (all the way up top and below) a couple of years ago when I was pregnant with Aurora knowing that even though I didn’t fit in then, it would be a staple for me. Dave snapped a couple of photos of me the other day on my way to work when I stopped quickly to dead-head the new white sage we’d just planted in our window boxes. Even just having that quick moment to dote on my plants is relaxing and a bit of an exhale.
I put together a shopping collage with some of my absolute favorite chambray pieces below, including two for little ones at the bottom. (If you’re reading this in your email and want to view or shop the collage, you have to go to my actual blog to see it so click on the blog title up at the top of the email to view it- apologies but we still haven’t figured out how to get these “active” photos to work in email.) The pieces are all over the map pricepoint-wise and to shop any of them, just click on the photo. There are a couple I’m going for but I promise you, it won’t be a button-down shirt!
Have an amazing day!! xo
