The Dune House project has been a ride. We bought the 5 bedroom oceanfront house in Duck, North Carolina (in the Outer Banks) about a year and a half ago with plans to rehab it and rent out. Fast-forward to last spring/summer when the market went up (and up and up!) and our renovation costs with the house also went up (and up and up!!) we decided to sell it instead. Well, when some really fun (and expensive) behind-the-scenes situations went down concerning the property, we were delayed from selling it (I am sharing about it in next book, Beach Life) and had to wait until now to put it on the market. But this real estate market is a whole different ballgame from last summer’s market and it’s been on for a couple of weeks now and hasn’t gone under contract yet. SO…. we’re switching gears. Again.
The Dune House will be our first official LL PROPERTY and I am nervous, excited and just whoah right now!! Dave and I have been dreaming about offering properties for rent for years now and I can’t believe that it’s finally happening after a series of what felt like unfortunate events at the time.
We are now knee-deep in ordering kitchen goods and extra linens and attempting to figure out how to make a listing for booking on our website. The house will be available for week-long rentals beginning in this July, and for anyone interested in being on the list of the first to know when the listing goes live, please reply to this post with your name and email address OR email lostcottages@laurenliess.com with the subject line “DUNE HOUSE.” As a heads up, we will be offering this summer’s rates at slightly discounted rates since it’s so last-minute so if you do decide you want to book, I would grab your week as soon as you physically can because there aren’t many (any??) oceanfront rentals left in Duck and I think it’ll go fast.
I know we have a biiiiig ol’ learning curve ahead of us and I’m praying we really learn how to make guests happy and that people make the very best memories at Dune House!!!
Weekly Rental House details: 5 bedrooms (3 kings | 1 bunk room with 6 twins | 1 trundle bedroom) 3.5 bathrooms I Oceanfront with private beach walk-up | open floorplan kitchen/ great room with family room + an upstairs loft overlooking the views. Email lostcottages@laurenliess.com to get on the list of the first to know when the booking page goes live!
To check out the video tour of the house I made last year (No I’m not pregnant, I made the unfortunate decision to wear a sweater under my overalls lol.) go here.

Lauren
Beautiful house, I’m sure you’ll have no trouble renting it!

As a frequent house renter, here are perhaps a few tips from the renter’s perspective. The fees are out of control with the big guys, charge enough so there aren’t a million add-ons. Having a cooler and beach chairs make the stay sooo much better. Remember Costco and IKEA for housewares and consumables. Being able to replace glassware and dishes that match is a money saver. Oh and provide plastic glasses, less breakage and cooler friendly.
provide black washcloths for “make up”, stains don’t show.
provide gold filter for coffee machine, one more paper product you don’t need to inventory.
I’m on the board of a resort with houses and condos in Hawaii, e-mail me for more “free” advice.
Please let me know when your rental goes live.
Please add me to the rental possibility list!❤️
When your rental is available, please let me know.
